READ THE LANDSCAPE
Lapalala Curator House
Learn from the landscape.
The Curator House is designed as a learning space where people can explore and reconnect with the natural world.
Located at Lapalala Wilderness School, the design responds to education, wilderness and off-grid thinking. It encourages visitors to observe the landscape in different ways rather than simply being told what to see.
A circle of discovery.
A connected sequence of spaces mirrors the experience of finding one’s way through nature.
A central amphitheatre, exhibition loop and Pick & Eat Garden / Kiosk are arranged as a learning journey. Visitors find clues using sight, sound, touch, scent and memory.
Six clues. One way through.
Move through the environmental-navigation experience, one sensory clue at a time.
The visitor sequence follows the sky, the movement of air, signals from the ground, scent, visible landmarks and the memory of what has been discovered.

A place to look, listen, touch.
Architecture becomes a frame for learning rather than the whole lesson.
The entrance opens toward a central amphitheatre, while the garden and kiosk extend the learning journey outside. Earthy material choices respond to the landscape around the centre.
